Things I love today: Mamma Mia style

Last night my brother and I went to see Mamma Mia and it was super fun! The camp factor was ridiculously high but I wouldn't have expected anything less; this is a musical movie based on ABBA songs, after all. If you can ignore the weak plot and Pierce Brosnan's singing (distractingly bad), I promise it is quite enjoyable if you like breezy summer romances set to ABBA songs.

The best part about the movie was that it was visually amazing (and I'm not talking about adorable Colin Firth who is so funny and cute in this movie). I actually thought the movie was worth watching just for fun music and the really beautiful use of color and inspiring design.

Practically every scene is resplendent with pretty, breezy printed fabrics in vibrant colors and patterns: stripes, florals, folky embroidery. I did a little research and found that most of the fabrics were from Swedish designer Josef Frank. Two gorgeous prints:

I especially loved the bachelorette party and wedding scenes, set after sunset on an open terrace with tons of lit lanterns, flowers, and guests in brightly colored clothing. The entire movie provides major inspiration for a really fun, alcohol soaked, crazy dancing, carefree party! Something to keep in mind for our next shindig...

Me and my parents went to see and it was so fun! And I couldn't agree more about the use of color and the decor and the beautifully orchestrated rooms and most of all about Pierce Brosnan's singing, which was god awful. Plus, on his close up, I was totally distracted by his under eye twitching. The part where Meryl Streep is dancing around on the roof of the goat hut sort of freaked me out cause she was so intense about it. Oh, and I loved the scene with all the Greek women in it - very cool.
I am surprised that your bro went with you, I did not realize he was a lover of ABBA. :)
