My last entry about our honeymoon concerned our forays into the Mekong Delta, land of snake wine, floating markets, vegetarian rats, and delicious sour seafood hot pots.
After spending about 10 days in and around Ho Chi Minh City, we ventured up the coast. First stop? Mui Ne, a seaside town that reminded me a baby Las Vegas - there were an astonishing number of hotels (almost all with neon signs) for this tiny town.
Again, we hired a driver to take us. The traffic out of Ho Chi Minh City was ridiculously bad, and the exhaust was suffocating, so it was nice to finally leave the city. I recommend driving up the coast just for the scenery. It was amazing to see all of the sprawling industrial complexes and "suburbs" stretching north out of the city. Once you get out of the city, you start to see more farming towns and scenes like this:
Mui Ne is a good place to stop for a day or so, for the palm trees and balmy weather.
Other than being a convenient place to stop off for a day of relaxing and swimming before heading up to Nha Trang, however, Mui Ne was not super exciting. I'd be interested to see if it develops into more of a Las Vegas-style beach resort place in 5-10 years.
Next up: Nha Trang, possibly my favorite place in Vietnam!
