To Do: Summer Re-Reading List

There's something so great and comforting about re-reading books I loved when I was younger. I was Bookworm Extraordinaire and, especially during the summer, read all day and every day. Lately it has been thunderstorming and so I have been curling up in a big leather chair with a pot of tea and a stack of books.

These are on my re-reading list:

Anne of Green Gables (L.M. Montgomery) - One of my favorite childhood books series. Anne Shirley is so fun and charming and Gilbert Blythe so perfect. Sigh.

A Room with a View (E.M. Forster) - Travel and romance are both elements of a good summer read. For a Victorian-era novel, this book is pretty fun and easy to read.

Emma / Pride and Prejudice (Jane Austen) - No explanation needed for Jane Austen, right??

Count of Monte Cristo (Alexandre Dumas) - Best, most gripping adventure novel I've ever read.

Little Women (Louisa M. Alcott) - A classic. For extra fun you can watch the movie. Christian Bale as Laurie is so perfect.

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn - My favorite book. Even Mark read this (after he saw a character in Band of Brothers reading it in the trenches) and liked it.

P.S. A few weeks ago I listed the books I've read most recently and I forgot to include Atonement by Ian McEwan. I saw the movie first and read the book on our flight to Tokyo. Both the movie and the book are excellent (mmm James McAvoy), but I enjoyed the book more, as usual. The writing was excellent; very enjoyable.
