Today's pleasures

The perfect summer sandwich:

1. Toast two slices of good, crusty bread.
2. Thinly slice a ripe avocado and tomatoes that smell like sun and grass.
3. Smear bread with tangy, cooling Greek yogurt and spicy, salty harissa.
4. Layer tomatoes, avocado, and a pile of sprouts on bread.
5. Eat blissfully.

Remember our trip to Darwin's sandwich shop in Cambridge? My favorite sandwich is basically what you just described, except it also has thinly sliced carrots and Granny Smith apple on it. And it has hummus and honey mustard instead of yogurt and harissa. Okay, so now it sounds really different, but I bet it tastes remarkably similar.

No more avocado sandwiches for me :( Avocados just reached $2/EACH at the grocery store this week. So... just one a week for guac now. :( :( :(
